Flexible Paper Sculptures by Li Hongbo

Published 2 years ago

You may think these are just nicely detailed and delicate ceramic busts, but their beauty has to be unfolded (literally). Inspired by the traditional Chinese paper decorations, Beijing-based artist Li Hongbo creates flexible sculptures out of thousands of layers of glued thin paper.

Hongbo first builds the honeycomb-like structure, kept together by strategically-placed glue on each layer. He then carves it into a desired shape and reveals the surreal potential of the sculptures by gently pulling them up. Be sure to check out the video below to see them in action!
