Artist Completes His Paper Cutouts Using Nature

Published 9 years ago

Can you see nature through animals? You can with Nikolai Tolstyh’s silhouettes. This artist cuts animal outlines out of a sheet of paper. He then photographs a bit of nature through the gap. You can not only see the clever combos of animal shape and color, but also an interesting visual composition. When photographed through a hedgehog outline, a tree stump with a leaf becomes a bunch of quills with an impaled apple.

Nikolai Tolstyh is a journalist, bibliophile, art lover and a natural craftsman. His art reminds of two projects we posted before. You can check out animal and nature double exposure portraits here and here. An another artist has photographed city outlines through cut-outs of dress illustrations, and you can see it here.

Writes like a mad dervish, rolls to dodge responsibility, might have bitten the Moon once.

Got wisdom to pour?
