Artist Larysa Bernhardt Transforms Fabric Scraps Into Colorful Moth Sculptures (20 Pics)

Published 16 hours ago

Textile artist Larysa Bernhardt has found a way to give new life to fabric scraps by turning them into intricate and colorful moth sculptures. Using old tapestries, vintage fabrics, and discarded cloth pieces, Bernhardt creates delicate moths that look like they could flutter away at any moment.

Each piece showcases her keen eye for detail and her love for storytelling through textiles. The artist carefully selects patterns, textures, and colors from her collection of fabric remnants and stitches them together to form the wings, body, and antennae of her moths. The results are not only beautiful but also a testament to the possibilities of sustainable art.

In an interview with DeMilked, the artist also revealed why she loves moths so much. “The fact that they’re nocturnal. The mythology behind them. In some lore, moths take our wishes to the moon. In some, they symbolize light and illusion. To me, they are magic until they get into my treasured tapestries. Then the white gloves are off.”

Bernhardt started this series as a way to blend her passion for embroidery with her admiration for moths, creatures often overlooked in favor of their butterfly cousins. For her, moths represent quiet beauty and transformation, making them the perfect subject for her textile sculptures.

The following pictures highlight some of Bernhardt’s most stunning creations. From bold, jewel-toned designs to more muted, earthy pieces, each moth has its own personality and charm.
