Mom Gets Tired Of People Labeling Girls And Does A Badass Photoshoot Of Princesses In Athletic Gear

Published 5 years ago

There are some pretty silly stereotypes that sporty girls can’t be girly and vice versa. It’s pretty ignorant to think that if a girl likes baseball or soccer, she can’t like dolls or pretty dresses. Tired of these ridiculous stereotypes, one mother organized a photoshoot where princesses posed in athletic gear and the results are truly badass.

The mother and photographer who organized the photoshoot is Heather Mitchell from Moulton, Alabama. In an interview with Bored Panda, the photographer says she came up with the idea when her youngest daughter was trying softball for the first time.

“We were at practice a few weeks ago and I was talking with the other moms. I was saying that I hoped Paislee learned to love the game because she was athletic,” said Heather. “One of the moms told me that she was not athletic that she was a girly girl. I couldn’t sleep that night. All I could think was, ‘why does she have to choose?’”

Heather says she used to play every sport her school had to offer and wore lipstick to every game. She went to her studio the following day and photographed her daughter – it only took about three minutes since the photographer knew exactly what she wanted.

“I posted them to my personal Facebook and had tons of requests so we added two days to our schedule and they sold out in one hour. So I added two more days and they sold out too,” said Heather. “These photos were my daughter and some of the girls from the first day of shoots. I have three more days next month!”

Heather’s inspiring photos with the caption “Because you can do it all” have been shared almost 200,000 times so far.

Heather believes that daughters shouldn’t have to choose between being girly or sporty. “My parents taught me that I could be anything I wanted growing up,” says the photographer. “I didn’t realize until I was much older that everyone is not that blessed.”

Heather shared some more inspiring words to all the girls out there: “It is important for girls to know that there is no box. They can be girly and athletic. Artsy and smart. Whatever they dream, they can achieve.”

One day, this guy just kind of figured - "I spend most of my time on the internet anyway, why not turn it into a profession?" - and he did! Now he not only gets to browse the latest cat videos and fresh memes every day but also shares them with people all over the world, making sure they stay up to date with everything that's trending on the web. Some things that always pique his interest are old technologies, literature and all sorts of odd vintage goodness. So if you find something that's too bizarre not to share, make sure to hit him up!

Got wisdom to pour?
