NASA Releases 30 New Stunning Space Photos To Celebrate The Hubble Telescope’s 30th Anniversary

Published 3 years ago

The Hubble Space Telescope is a space telescope that was launched into low Earth orbit back in 1990. This year marks the telescope’s 30th anniversary, and to celebrate, NASA released 30 new stunning space photos in addition to the Caldwell catalog. NASA says that there’s something special about these “celestial gems” – all of them can be seen using regular backyard telescopes, and some of them can even be spotted using binocular or simply the naked eye!

The Caldwell catalog is a collection of celestial objects compiled by British amateur astronomer Sir Patrick Caldwell-Moore and published back in 1995. It was inspired by the Messier catalog and contains the galaxies, star clusters, and nebulae not included in the latter catalog.

You might notice that some of the photos may appear cropped – and NASA has an explanation for that. “Because of Hubble’s detailed field of view, some of its pictures do not capture the entirety of a Caldwell object, sometimes instead zooming in on clusters of young stars in the arms of a spiral galaxy, stars on the outskirts of a cluster, or the zombie star at the heart of a nebula,” explains NASA. “But in other cases, a mosaic of Hubble observations assemble to create a complete or nearly complete portrait of the celestial marvel.”

One day, this guy just kind of figured - "I spend most of my time on the internet anyway, why not turn it into a profession?" - and he did! Now he not only gets to browse the latest cat videos and fresh memes every day but also shares them with people all over the world, making sure they stay up to date with everything that's trending on the web. Some things that always pique his interest are old technologies, literature and all sorts of odd vintage goodness. So if you find something that's too bizarre not to share, make sure to hit him up!

Got wisdom to pour?
