Japanese Mom Plates Her Kids’ Food Like Stunning Works Of Art

Published 3 hours ago

As children, most of us grew up eating simple meals our parents often prepared in a rush. Sometimes, it was as basic as buttered toast sprinkled with sugar or topped with a dash of Marmite. One Japanese mother, however, has far surpassed the ordinary, impressing the internet with her meticulous plating skills when it comes to dishing out food for her three kids.

Having mastered Kyaraben—the Japanese art of character bento—Etoni Mama transforms ordinary food into colourful, familiar designs. The Tokyo-based mom recreates popular cartoon characters, iconic movie stars, and animal shapes that are visually appealing. Despite having no formal training in food art, she has gained thousands of followers on Instagram. Each dish she creates takes about an hour to complete, and are a testament to how food can be playful, nourishing, and delicious all at once.

Shanilou Perera

Shanilou has always loved reading and learning about the world we live in. While she enjoys fictional books and stories just as much, since childhood she was especially fascinated by encyclopaedias and strangely enough, self-help books. As a kid, she spent most of her time consuming as much knowledge as she could get her hands on and could always be found at the library. Now, she still enjoys finding out about all the amazing things that surround us in our day-to-day lives and is blessed to be able to write about them to share with the whole world as a profession.

Got wisdom to pour?
