12 Quirky Embroideries By Artist Who Calls Herself An Old Victorian Lady In A Millennial’s Body
Embracing her millennial sense of humour and Victorian-era stitching talents, Laney Boyd has created a whimsical brand of embroidered pieces. This playful artist laughingly explained how stitching has quickly become her entire personality since she discovered it in 2020. During the pandemic, she needed to keep her hands busy instead of doomscrolling. When two friends posted photos of their latest embroidery projects online, the methodical and mindful process caught her attention. She ordered her own kit and, from her very first stitch, she admits she was hooked.
Each piece has a playful element, and Boyd says most of her work is inspired by the things she loves. With a degree in classical music, she often emulates the look of music sheets in her pieces. More recently, her love of reading has led her to stitch on the covers of books she enjoys. Her loving family also inspires pieces based on memorable phrases or interactions she shares with them. Under the moniker “Thistles and Threads,” Boyd has experimented with many stitching designs that continue to impress and delight fans of her work.
