8 Ceramic Sculptures Depicting Childhood Emotional Distress

Published 6 hours ago

Emotions are part and parcel of the human experience. But as children we may not always have recognised the role our emotions played in our lives. For most people these childhood associations colour their behaviour and affect their relationships well into adulthood. Lena Guberman’s art explores the theme of childhood social anxiety as she translates awkward moments into expressive ceramic sculptures.

In a series aptly called, INS-IDE-OUT, the Israeli artist attempts to portray the fears and discomforts we carry inside us. The  emotions people deal with on a daily basis hidden under the masks we slip on our faces when engaging in social interactions. Each face is exactly the same as the others, serving as the canvas for each characters inner emotions bursting out. Despite the slightly unsettling visage of the figurines, they exude a relatable charm because at the end of the day we are all a little emotionally askew.

Shanilou Perera

Shanilou has always loved reading and learning about the world we live in. While she enjoys fictional books and stories just as much, since childhood she was especially fascinated by encyclopaedias and strangely enough, self-help books. As a kid, she spent most of her time consuming as much knowledge as she could get her hands on and could always be found at the library. Now, she still enjoys finding out about all the amazing things that surround us in our day-to-day lives and is blessed to be able to write about them to share with the whole world as a profession.

Got wisdom to pour?
