MyeongBeom Kim’s Art Provokes A Fresh Perspective On Things We Use Daily

Published 7 hours ago

MyeongBeom Kim is known for transforming everyday objects into eye-catching sculptures that challenge how we see the world around us. By bringing together familiar items—like a helium balloon trapped in a bird cage or a sunflower sprouting from a light bulb—he invites us to reconsider their purpose and meaning. Often surprising or whimsical, these combinations gently disrupt our sense of what is ordinary.

People often ask about the meaning behind his pieces, but the artist explained, “To ask what an object means to me is like asking what beings I am.” The Korean artist describes his work as a conversation with his environment, where he listens closely to the “whispers” of objects before blending them. He explores ideas of life, growth, and change by stripping items of their typical function and reimagining them in new settings. His installations scattered throughout exhibitions prompt viewers to discover unexpected details—such as a key embedded in an apple or a candle with a wooden wick.

Drawing from the tradition of Surrealist artists, Kim’s poetic creations remind us to find wonder in the mundane. In a digital world full of constant change, his unique sculptures provide a moment of reflection and joy.

Shanilou Perera

Shanilou has always loved reading and learning about the world we live in. While she enjoys fictional books and stories just as much, since childhood she was especially fascinated by encyclopaedias and strangely enough, self-help books. As a kid, she spent most of her time consuming as much knowledge as she could get her hands on and could always be found at the library. Now, she still enjoys finding out about all the amazing things that surround us in our day-to-day lives and is blessed to be able to write about them to share with the whole world as a profession.

Got wisdom to pour?
