20 Times This Artist Transformed Flora And Fauna Into Paper Masterpieces

Published 2 hours ago

Yorkshire-based artist Pippa Dyrlaga transforms ordinary sheets of paper into intricate, nature-inspired works of art. Her creations capture the delicate beauty of the natural world, from leaves to birds, with meticulous precision.

In an interview with DeMilked, Dyrlaga shared how she began working with paper. “I started paper cutting around 2009, when I first discovered it as a medium. I was studying at the time, and I started cutting out silhouettes and progressed from there.” She described the experience as transformative. “It was the first time I felt a true connection to a medium and way of expressing myself.” Studying art allowed her to “experiment and explore it, and also to put my work into context in both its history and how it was being used by contemporary artists.”

Her process starts with a pencil sketch. “Everything starts with a pencil drawing of some form.” She works intuitively, adding details as she goes. “If I am making my own work, I don’t plan out the entire image first, but will add and fill in details as I work in small sections. I like working this way as it means that the image develops quite organically.” After sketching, she moves to cutting and sometimes painting. “Once I have a section complete in pencil, I will then start cutting out the details. After the cutting is complete, I will then sometimes paint the cut paper, in part or in full.” For commissions, she prepares “more detailed layouts and sketches.” Check out some of her stunning works below.
