On October 31, after five years of construction, India has finally unveiled the statue of politician Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Named the Statue of Unity, it stands at 182 metres (597 ft) tall, making in the tallest statue in the world.
The statue is located in the Narmada district of India, occupies 20,000 square metres (220,000 sq ft) of space and is surrounded by an artificial lake. It cost a whopping $290 million and was designed by one of the most famous Indian sculptors – Ram Vanji Suthar.

Others claimed that the money spent on the statue could have been used for more important purposes, like education and women’s safety.
