Cat Bed Made To Look Like Super Mario’s Chain Chomp Monster
Is your cat a fan of Super Mario Bros.? Then it would love to sleep in this Chain Chomp monster bed! The folks at CatastrophiCreations are dedicated to making cool cat furniture, and this is no exception. Built from a stupendously large foam ball and coated in epoxy, it’s 100% not toxic to pets and 200% nostalgic cool. And while your cat lounges around the giant gaping maw, a chain connects the bed to the box. The box cover is hinged, and it can be used to store catnip, cat toys and other cat related materials.
The Chain Chomp is a monster that appears in many Mario games (even though it was planned for Legend of Zelda) and it looks like a ball-and-chain with eyes and a huge mouth. The irony now that it’s been made into a cat-bed is that Chain Chomp usually has dog like qualities; Shigeru Miyamoto’s inspiration came from the childhood memory of a dog who wanted to bite him, but was stopped by a chain.
CatastrophiCreations makes a lot of really big cat furniture, including one Super Mario Bros. level inspired set. However, just like the Chain Chomp bed, it proved to be impractical to mass-produce, although they seem to have mastered the use of sisal and scrap wood. You can see many pieces of cat furniture on their Etsy store.
None of those look like they would eat a cat, though.

Chain Chomp started out as a giant Styrofoam ball
I wanted the body to have a metal texture, so I used a product for making set props and then covered everything in many coats of epoxy
The body has the eyes, teeth, and inside the mouth all have a gloss finish to give them a wet look
For me, Chain Chomp was a labor of love
After all the layers of different products, Chain Chomp is super durable, but still very light
I made sure all the products were completely non-toxic and pet safe
