Old City Buses Will Be Turned Into Mobile Homeless Shelters in Hawaii

Published 9 years ago

Hawaii’s homeless are about to spend a lot more time on the bus. A new project headed by Group 70 International would see 70 decommissioned and donated buses turned into shelters. It’s more than that: the buses would be specialized and operate in fleets. Some buses will feature shower areas, other buses will be dedicated to learning. Together, they’d provide comprehensive services.

“The entire design is based on the premise that you could walk in to a hardware store, buy everything you need in one go and build everything with no trade skills,” Ma Ry Kim, who heads the Group 70 effort, commented on the project for Hawaii News Now. They hope to complete the first two buses by the end of the summer.

It’s certainly different from this other bus project we wrote about.
