He began developing his style in 2019 during graduate school, seeking an engaging activity during long lectures. Foust recalls, “I aimed to draw as many lines as possible during a four-hour lecture to stay focused. I posted these drawings online, and someone asked to colour them, which motivated me further. As attention grew, people began wanting to buy my art, which was an unexpected but encouraging turn. I introduced simple rules to see what emerged, eventually creating a picture with just one non-intersecting line. This led to my exploration of abstract and representational forms.”

What started as doodles evolved into a unique artistic pursuit focused on finding beauty in simplicity and complexity through a single stroke. Foust states, “Every piece begins as a challenge: to create something captivating without lifting my pen. What began as a way to stay engaged in grad school has turned into a lifelong exploration of hidden images and optical illusions that invite viewers to trace a single, unbroken line.”

Sharing insights into his creative process, Foust explains, “For abstract art, I imagine forms and translate them onto paper. For non-abstract pieces, I first sketch a single-line image, then refine the line to best represent the intended image.”
