Artist Paints Natural Vistas Observed In The West Of America
William Hawkins has created a name for himself with his colourful and stylised impressionist oil paintings. The bold compositions, comprising stark imagery, invoke a strong emotional response in his audience. Clouds, trees, cows, and plowed, rain-soaked fields are among his favourite subjects. The brushwork techniques, interplay of light, and expert shading of matte to shine, alluding to different textures, all blend together to create an illusion of depth in the vibrant vistas and cloudscapes the artist prefers to render.
Hawkins’ paintings often feature elements of nature as the subject material. His drawings sometimes centre on dynamic panoramic views, while others highlight a flock of birds mid-flight or a herd of ambling animals spotted amongst the scenic depictions. The stunning portrayals focus on beautiful expanses of land bathed in an ambient hue, glancing off scenic planes. Trees, land, leaves, and running water gleam under a luminous moon or under a gently rising sun that burnishes the green foliage in a beautiful, fiery glow that practically leaps off the canvas.

Growing up on the banks of the Mississippi River in central Minnesota, the budding artist discovered a talent for sketching in his childhood itself. The mighty waters of the river ultimately awakened the quixotic artist within Hawkins. The ‘Artistical Expeditionary’, as he calls himself, found that the natural acts of stargazing and cloud spotting of his youth have currently inspired his desire to mimic the ‘vibe of nature’ on paper.
