The name Inceptionism comes from DeepDream, a Google financed project which originally had a different name - Inception (yes, based on the movie). It caught on and the art technique has become known as Inceptionism.

Inceptionism is a part of a bigger dream: making computers smarter and even teaching them to create their own content. It is achieved by making computer system mimic biological neural network. Just like a human brain, this system is fed with a constantly increasing stream of data, that it learns from and adjusts its further behaviour.

But if you're not into all this scientific mumbo jumbo, then you can still enjoy the controlled randomness produced by it.
