Artist Embroiders Landscapes From A Bird’s-Eye View, And The Details Are Amazing (20 Pics)
Seeing the world from above has a way of making everything feel both vast and intimate, and artist Victoria Rose Richards captures that feeling thread by thread. Using embroidery as her medium, she recreates landscapes from a bird’s-eye view, turning mountains, rivers, and coastlines into richly textured works that feel almost topographical.
Richards has shared that she initially embroidered more traditional landscapes, but things shifted in 2019 when she created the first aerial piece that immediately resonated with her. As she explained, “An issue I had with my other pieces was I just wasn’t drawn to the sky aspect. I really enjoyed the landscape itself, the sky was usually an afterthought.” Exploring aerial perspectives helped resolve that, while also drawing her to “the geometric shapes and textures visible from above.” She added that since then, she has been “almost completely focussed on aerials,” a direction that clearly shines through in the detailed works you’ll see below.
