Charaka is the well-known author of the Charaka Samhita, Ayurveda's oldest surviving text. It is said that Agnivesa, Charaka, Bhela, Jatukarna, Parasara, Harita, and Ksharapaani were his master Punarvasu Atreya's seven disciples. The revised version of Agnivesa's Samhita is known as the Charaka Samhita.
