Elderly Gardener Spent The Last 13 Years Turning His 150-Ft-Long Hedge Into A Fantastic Dragon

Published 10 years ago

John Brooker, a 75-year-old man living in the UK, transformed his straight and boring hedge into a wonderfully shaped 150-foot green dragon. The fantastic creature extends on one side of his rented farm cottage and is up to 10 ft (3 m).

I was standing at my kitchen sink one day and thought the hedge was boring so decided to do something with it,” recalls the retired fan maker, who did just that. For the last 10 years, he has been trimming and refining the dragon topiary every two to three weeks, spending up to three days working on it at once. He has to use a pair of 6 ft-high (1.8 m) ladders and four electric hedge trimmers.

The masterfully made dragon sculpture is constantly being improved with a new curve here or there – and Brooker created it all by himself.
