Tattoo Artist Creates Intricate Textured Designs (20 Pics)

Published 2 years ago

A tattoo artist, Carlos Velasquez, also known as Velco, creates very interesting one-of-a-kind textured tattoos. Although he only officially started tattooing in 2019, he has mastered his art of making gritty tattoos to perfection now.

His hybrid creative studio is centered around tattoos, design, music, and streetwear. In an interview with Demilked, he revealed, “When I started tattooing I was only doing fine line work, as I wanted to get accustomed to the skin, needle and ink before experimenting with other styles. After a year of practice, I started exploring different techniques and came across the dotwork effect that I now do thanks to a request by a client to add shading into one of the designs I had created. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the grainy texture that was attained and it shifted the path that I continued upon with tattooing,”

Velco also said, “The effect gave me the feel of the beautiful vintage, grainy texture in images captured with a film camera and since then, I’ve been working on designs where I can integrate this effect.” Check out some of his wonderful tattoos in the gallery below.

Talking about his inspiration, Velco said, “My main inspiration when drawing has been coming from me trying to express my feelings, thoughts and experiences that I find myself living at the moment as well as from the conversations that I’ve had the pleasure to share with my clients. Everyone that has been coming to get a tattoo with me has shared snapshots of their lives and realities which have influenced the way I now perceive my own life”

The artist further elaborated, “The ambiance of where I’m drawing is very important for me; from the lighting, sounds and aroma in the environment. All of these elements help me get lost in my internal universe and help me let out what I need to communicate with myself and with the world.”

“The window frames that I’ve been designing and tattooing have been a product that; a portal to another reality. And it’s beautiful to know that there are now multiple portals wondering around the world providing us with glances to other universes,” he added.
