India Just Unveiled The Tallest Statue In The World And It’s Almost 5 Times Bigger Than Rio Christ

Published 1 year ago

On October 31, after five years of construction, India has finally unveiled the statue of politician Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Named the Statue of Unity, it stands at 182 metres (597 ft) tall, making in the tallest statue in the world.

The statue is located in the Narmada district of India, occupies 20,000 square metres (220,000 sq ft) of space and is surrounded by an artificial lake. It cost a whopping $290 million and was designed by one of the most famous Indian sculptors – Ram Vanji Suthar.

Sadly, as amazing as all of this sounds, the building of the statue was a controversial topic from the very beginning – local people opposed the acquiring of the land, claiming it had religious importance. Others claimed that the money spent on the statue could have been used for more important purposes, like education and women’s safety.

Love it or hate it, looks like the statue is here to stay – check it out in the gallery below!

One day, this guy just kind of figured - "I spend most of my time on the internet anyway, why not turn it into a profession?" - and he did! Now he not only gets to browse the latest cat videos and fresh memes every day but also shares them with people all over the world, making sure they stay up to date with everything that's trending on the web. Some things that always pique his interest are old technologies, literature and all sorts of odd vintage goodness. So if you find something that's too bizarre not to share, make sure to hit him up!
