18 Vibrantly Sparkling Beaded Mystic Figurines By Betsy Youngquist

Published 3 hours ago

Life can feel too serious to leave room for flights of fancy, but letting our imaginations soar may be the key to unlocking new layers of experience. The mystical world of Betsy Youngquist invites us to rediscover a sense of wonder about all the curious possibilities around us—if only we choose to perceive them. Her childlike excitement for the mystical, the magical, and the surreal shines through her work. She sees art as an expression of something larger than our physical existence: a medium of connection that helps us better understand the planet’s unified consciousness on an energetic level.

Over the past eight years, beaded three-dimensional animals fused with human features—like glass eyes or human feet—have become Youngquist’s signature style. Her artistic journey began in grade school, when she co-authored and illustrated a children’s book, The Two Friends. She went on to earn a master’s degree in art education in 1992, and her beaded painting Flight of the Zebra was later exhibited at the National Museum of Women in the Arts by the Illinois Committee.

Today, Youngquist, together with her partner in life and art, continues to explore the realms that exist between realities through tales of human truth and overlapping dimensional experiences along a conscious continuum. Within these creative journeys, the elusive line between logic and the mystical remains a constant source of curiosity. Duality, mischief, transfiguration, enchantment, and amusement are narrative themes the artists masterfully toy with as they capture the most intangible qualities of the human experience. Their work is deeply inspired by the unknown, the surreal, the mythical, and the rich traditions of folklore.

Shanilou Perera

Shanilou has always loved reading and learning about the world we live in. While she enjoys fictional books and stories just as much, since childhood she was especially fascinated by encyclopaedias and strangely enough, self-help books. As a kid, she spent most of her time consuming as much knowledge as she could get her hands on and could always be found at the library. Now, she still enjoys finding out about all the amazing things that surround us in our day-to-day lives and is blessed to be able to write about them to share with the whole world as a profession.

Got wisdom to pour?
