Elizabeth Saloka Paints Rocks In Fun And Familiar Motifs
Trying to take a bite of this particular food might leave you chipping a tooth. Elizabeth Saloka has built a vast collection of distinctive artworks created on an unexpected canvas of ordinary stones. Known online as @bettyrubblenyc, she transforms pebbles of various sizes into pop icons, toys, snacks, and nostalgic merchandise.
Saloka sources her rocks from the streets of Brooklyn, New York City, and other places she visits, treating everyday sidewalks and parks as her personal, free quarry. Her art turns these unassuming stones into unconventional canvases whose natural contours and grooves she cleverly weaves into each design. She describes her process as “listening” to the stone, allowing its shape and texture to guide her as she searches for the perfect piece to bring her vision to life. What was once overlooked rubble, ignored, stepped on, or discarded, has become a vivid representation of a favourite brand, a cherished childhood memory, or a mundane object elevated into something extraordinary by her skill and imagination.
