15 Adorable And Playful Ceramic Sculptures By Japanese Artist

Published 4 hours ago

Whimsical, expressive ceramic forms define En Iwamura’s work. Heavily influenced by his painter parents and their artist friends, the Japanese artist grew up immersed in creativity. This early exposure inspired him to pursue art and eventually develop a distinctive style. His straightforward visual language is reflected in the basic, simple techniques he uses in his ceramics. Often described as charming for their eccentric aesthetic, his pieces gain a timeless quality through subtle grooves and nuanced colour gradients.

Iwamura also experiments with how to shape viewers’ perception of his installation works. To do this, he draws on the Japanese philosophy of Ma, which deals with how people experience distance, time, space, and the relationships between themselves and their surroundings. This deeply individual perception is something he actively considers when designing his installations. In an online interview, he acknowledged that viewers might find his work cute or scary, familiar or unfamiliar, fun or boring—but that tension between opposing emotions is exactly what he wants to cultivate and explore.

Shanilou Perera

Shanilou has always loved reading and learning about the world we live in. While she enjoys fictional books and stories just as much, since childhood she was especially fascinated by encyclopaedias and strangely enough, self-help books. As a kid, she spent most of her time consuming as much knowledge as she could get her hands on and could always be found at the library. Now, she still enjoys finding out about all the amazing things that surround us in our day-to-day lives and is blessed to be able to write about them to share with the whole world as a profession.

Got wisdom to pour?
