Known for his playful restraint and clever use of everyday urban elements, Dutch street artist Frankey has mastered the art of subtle surprise. His works blend so naturally into the city that you might pass them by without noticing, until a small detail suddenly makes everything click.
For Frankey, inspiration is everywhere, especially while moving through the city. The artist explains, “Personally, I really enjoy cycling through Amsterdam. There are always places where you think ‘what happened here?’, and then I immediately think: ‘how can I tell a story with this?’.” What begins as curiosity quickly turns into creation, and as he puts it, finding something to add and eventually making it became “a hobby that got out of hand.”
