36,000 Flowers Bring An Abandoned House In Detroit Back To Life

Published 9 years ago

Nature loves to reclaim old houses. This time, it’s people bringing plants and flowers inside a dilapidated structure! The Flower House project by Lisa Waud took an abandoned house in Detroit, gathered support from florists, and filled it with flowers. The house was only open for the third weekend of October. After that, it will be dismantled (75% of materials will be reused) and the lot will be utilized to grow flowers for Waud’s flower shop.

Lisa Waud started this project after buying two Detroit houses for about $500. First, she held a trial renovation in one of the houses to attract attention from the other artists. She gathered a team of talented people, including photographer Heather Saunders. They all worked to fill the other house will flowers. “I can’t stop dreaming of what can be done in those empty rooms,” Waud writes on the project website. “I can’t be more excited to fill them with flowers and people. This is the project of a lifetime. It’s massive and absurd and terrifying and thrilling and i couldn’t be happier to be in the middle of this floral chaos.”
