10 Kaleidoscopic Abstract Paintings By Georgy Kurasov

Published 4 weeks ago

The artist Georgy Kurasov is a trained sculptor and creates abstract paintings following the neo-constructivist approach (freedom expressed in a more or less orthodox language of geometry). His colorful, unique paintings capture the viewer’s attention immediately and one may find some hidden details upon taking a close look at his canvases.

The main focus of the artist’s works is human figures. “No matter what subject he takes up, whichever formal experiments draw him on, the central motif of Kurasov’s art, the focus of his interest and his artistic investigations, remains the human figure,” says his friend Alexey Larionov “This preference – one that is extremely rare today – is a manifestation of his close link with the classical tradition of European painting.”

The artist has been working on paintings for a very long time and usually creates 5-6 paintings per year. “Perhaps because I was trained as a sculptor, I’m not exactly a traditional painter,” Kurasov tells DeMilked “I have been working on a sketch with a pencil for a long time, building up the structure of the composition. After being transferred to canvas, it remains unchanged and the main aesthetic goal. Inside this design, I am completely free in form and color, often changing several times until I reach the maximum effect, as it seems to me.”
