Man Builds 2,500 Square Foot Dream Home Out Of 11 Shipping Containers

Everyone has their own idea of how a dream home should look like. For one person it may be a small, cozy bungalow by the beach, while for another it could be a three-story mansion in the English countryside. But have you ever though your dream home could be a bunch of shipping container stacked upon each other? Well, designer Will Breaux probably didn’t think so either but eventually ended up designing his dream home out of exactly that.

Will’s dream home is located in Houston and the designer says it’s the most extensive structure of its kind.

The house is built out of 11 shipping containers and even includes a rooftop deck.

Will wanted to build his dream home since the early 2000s but struggled to find a designer that would do it right. Eventually he gave up and designed it himself.

“I began looking at projects that were being built that I liked. Ultimately, a designer with a home builder family was hired to design a 3 story townhouse to be built on the lot,” writes the designer. “After going round and round for months, I eventually had to fire that group because they weren’t willing to give me what I wanted. Thus, the journey to design my own house began around 2011.”

“Shipping containers are strong, fireproof, long-lasting, hurricane resistant, and have common characteristics,” explains Will.

The man is no professional builder but was determined to build his dream home.

First, Will spent countless hours learning everything about constructing houses and eventually created a 3D sketch of the dream house. Step by step, the man built the spacious 2,500 square foot house and can now proudly say it looks just like he imagined.
