20 Elegant Glass Butterflies And Orchids By Laura Hart That Pay Tribute To Nature’s Perfection
Her orchids are inspired by a personal passion. “My love for orchids led me to recreate them in glass as closely as possible to nature, whilst ensuring their suitability as wall sculptures,” Hart explained. Each one measures about 30 cm across, and no two are identical. “They are uniquely nuanced, and there are now several multiple installations around the world, including cruise ships, the USA, Europe and Australia.”
Her butterflies and moths require even more precision. “Every butterfly and moth is unique. The wing sets are made of multiple layered patterns to create the colour and detail, fused individually before being overlaid into pairs,” she said. “The bodies are created from meticulously placed crushed glasses, then pate de verre cast. The legs, antennae and proboscis are all fashioned from sterling silver and patinated. Each specimen takes up to three weeks to complete from initial drawings and wax models to free standing sculpture.”
Hart’s words reflect the patience and devotion behind every piece. In the gallery below, you’ll find some of Laura Hart’s most mesmerizing glass sculptures of butterflies and orchids, fragile yet enduring tributes to the natural world.
