Creepy Porcelain Crawling With Hand-Painted Ants by Evelyn Bracklow

Published 11 years ago

German artist Evelyn Bracklow has created a playful but exquisitely painted set of antique-style china that looks like it’s being invaded by an army of ants.

Part of why the painstakingly hand-painted piece is so interesting is because, although it’s a simple idea, it has been executed very carefully and masterfully. Bracklow, however, has her own take on what’s so strange and interesting about the work;

“Fear, disgust, fascination and admiration: this very interplay of feelings constitutes the charm of the work. Furthermore, to me, the ants symbolize all the stories that any formerly discarded piece of porcelain carries with it. Where one once dined and drank, today ants bustle in ever new formations, every single one applied with a great love for detail.”

Some of the pieces are for sale on her Etsy store.
