30 Comics About A Girl In Her Afterlife By Jorgen Van Santen

Published 4 years ago

Death & the Maiden is a webcomic created by Oslo-based artist Jorgen Van Santen. The comic features a dead girl who was hit by a bus while being on the phone, Death itself, and all of the funny yet a little morbid adventures the two find themselves in.

In a recent interview with Bored Panda, the artist said he came up with the idea for the comic back in 2016, when he entered a national comic contest. Jorgen says that the contest gave him both a purpose and a deadline since he needed at least 15 episodes to participate. “The comic made the top 5, so I kept making more episodes for fun,” said the artist.

Not long after the competition, Jorgen started posting his comics on Tapas.io, where he gained quite a following. Then, back in 2019, the artist was asked to publish some comics in the weekend section of Aftenposten, the biggest newspaper in Norway. “I still publish two episodes every weekend here. The comics have also been published in other newspapers and comic magazines in Scandinavia,” said Jorgen. “I think I came up with the idea of a comic about the afterlife because I’m terrified of death and not religious.”

Jorgen said he grew up with classic Belgian comics and American newspaper strips. “Some of my favorite creators are Bill Watterson, André Franquin, Tome & Janry, René Goscinny & Albert Uderzo,” said the artist.

Aušrys Uptas

One day, this guy just kind of figured - "I spend most of my time on the internet anyway, why not turn it into a profession?" - and he did! Now he not only gets to browse the latest cat videos and fresh memes every day but also shares them with people all over the world, making sure they stay up to date with everything that's trending on the web. Some things that always pique his interest are old technologies, literature and all sorts of odd vintage goodness. So if you find something that's too bizarre not to share, make sure to hit him up!

Got wisdom to pour?
