Illustrator Reimagined Disney Princesses As Modern Career Seeking Women in 2018, And These Boss Ladies Will Inspire You

Published 7 years ago

Matt Burt –  a North Carolina-based graphic designer decided to do a new take on the classic Disney princesses by redrawing them as hard-working modern career women. In an interview with Bored Panda, he mentioned that in the numerous reimaginings he had seen, none were showing the princesses in these roles: “To many people, the Disney princesses have become so much more than just characters in movies. I wanted to create these to inspire others in hopes that they can find a career that they love and a career that makes a difference,” told Burt.

Each princess is reimagined as their relevant modern counterparts, such as Elsa being a Climate change scientist or Cinderella being an animal rights activist. Some are even more cheeky, such as the Sleeping beauty being a CEO of a coffee company – we simply love it. Although Burt created all the illustrations himself, he mentions that coming up with all the different jobs was a team effort with the help of his coworkers at Simple Thrifty Living. Burt and his colleagues wanted the princesses careers to be based on their personalities or movie events. “We knew we wanted these women to be in strong roles so it was a matter of not only choosing a career that would fit them from a backstory standpoint but also one that would fit the theme of the project.”

Burt says this was a passion project – it took him about two and a half months to complete while juggling with his everyday responsibilities. He doesn’t consider himself a fanatic of Disney – but having grown up with Disney movies, he remembers them fondly: “As I got older, I grew to appreciate the artwork and work that went into the animation,” says Burt. Check out his illustrations below and see the modern princesses yourself.
