Artist Paints With Fire, Engraving Lines In Candle Soot

Published 10 years ago

Canada-based artist Steven Spazuk is widely acknowledged as a major innovator in an already unique art form – drawing with soot. The whole process of drawing with soot is an improvisation, beginning with spontaneous candle or torch soot formation on paper and ending with gentle pencil, brush and even feather strokes, all of which etch fine lines into the soot spots.

Spazuk has been developing and perfecting this technique for the past 14 years, becoming a master of this subtle art form. See a few of Spazuk’s  beautiful creations and don’t miss the videos below, showing off the intriguing creative process.
