Floating Gym In Paris Powered By Its Visitors

Published 8 years ago

Design and innovation agency Carlo Ratti Associati has just unveiled one of their most creative eco-designs yet. It’s called Paris Navigating Gym and it’s basically a human-powered gym that would move along the Seine River in the heart of the French capital.

The Paris Navigating Gym investigates the potential of harnessing human power,” explains Carlo Ratti. “It’s fascinating to see how the energy generated by a workout at the gym can actually help to propel a boat. It provides one with a tangible experience of what lies behind the often abstract notion of ‘electric power’.

The design of this 20-meter boat was inspired by the Bateaux Mouches, typical 20th-century touristic ferry-boats of the Seine River. And if this one eventually goes into production, it will be functional all year long, finally making those strolls on the river – a reality.
