10 Floral Embroideries Peeking Through Scorched Trees, By Ukrainian Artist Diana Yevtukh
Against the blackened bark of scorched trees, delicate flowers quietly bloom. In this striking series, Ukrainian artist Diana Yevtukh stitches vibrant floral embroidery directly into wood marked by fire, creating a powerful contrast between destruction and renewal. Describing how the works begin, the artist says, “An empty space on the tree finds me first. I start to feel like something that belongs to a place was left out, and then I take measurements and start making the embroidery.”
For Yevtukh, the charred surfaces became more than just damaged wood. “I was seeing them as scars, but also as an emptiness which is out there to be filled with a statement. These thoughts hitchhiked in my mind for months, and obviously they’ve met my embroidery thoughts,” the artist says. Through thread and texture, she turns burn marks into symbols of resilience, letting color emerge from ash as a quiet reminder that life continues to return.
These embroidered works are both visually striking and deeply symbolic, blending craft, nature, and memory into art that feels fragile yet hopeful.
