World’s Largest Mondrian-Style Paintwork Appears On City Hall In The Netherlands
The Netherlands have started a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the De Stijl movement by painting The Hague’s City Hall facades in the style of the famous painter and architect Piet Mondrian.
Designed by architect Richard Meier, the city hall originally featured white facades, but for one year from now, they will serve as a canvas for the blocks of red, blue and yellow separated by black lines. It’s the signature style of Piet Mondrian, one of the most famous members of the De Stijl art movement, also known as neoplasticism.
The Hague’s City hall is only the first part of a series of installations that will take place across the city of Hague, which holds the largest collection of Mondrian’s works. (h/t: dezeen)
