10 Pics That Capture The Essence Of “Joy” In Lumicroma’s “In Colors Project”

Published 22 hours ago

What does joy look like in a fractured world? That’s the question at the heart of In Colors Project: JOY, the third edition of Lumicroma’s global photography initiative. Inaugurated on July 5th, the exhibition features 75 works by 56 artists from 22 countries, forming an emotional atlas of joy across cultures, identities, and lived realities.

Curated by Aníbal Lemos and Sandra Maria Teixeira, the exhibition treats photography not just as a medium of representation, but as a tool for ideological, poetic, and personal expression. From ecstatic movement in street celebrations to quiet reflections by candlelight, the photographs span cultures, continents, and emotional registers. Whether depicting collective rituals or intimate moments, each image presents joy as both a universal experience and a deeply personal expression. Some are electric and spontaneous; others are introspective and slow-burning. But every photograph pulses with meaning.

In a time shaped by geopolitical tension and systemic crises, the project positions joy not as escapism, but as resistance: a way of seeing, feeling, and imagining the future. Through intimate, vibrant, and deeply human images, JOY becomes both a sociocultural record and an artistic intervention, reaffirming Lumicroma’s mission to annually capture the grand image of our time.
