15 Award-Winning Shots From The SINWP Bird Photographer of the Year 2025

Published 1 hour ago

The SINWP Bird Photographer of the Year 2025 has just announced the remarkable wildlife photographers who took home top honours. The grace and power of flapping wings remind us of unbound freedom, the complexity of nature, and the fragile balance that holds it all together. Few things capture this better than a bird frozen mid-flight, pure poetry in motion. Competition was fierce, with more than 2,000 entrants vying for awards.

Now in its eighth year, The Society of International Nature and Wildlife Photographers has released the fascinating results of the SINWP Bird Photographer of the Year 2025, held in aid of the RSPB. The contest showcases a breathtaking celebration of avian beauty, from kingfishers and bald eagles to owls, flamingos, and countless other species. The diversity and quality of the entries are truly stunning.

This year’s winning image was captured by Gary Neville from Surrey, England. Neville explained: “The image was taken at Lake Kerkini in northern Greece. The lake, actually a man-made reservoir, is rich in wildlife and is especially renowned for its Dalmatian pelicans, a favourite subject among photographers worldwide. I captured this image while leaning over the side of a boat, keeping my camera away from the surface of the water, watching the pelicans slowly get closer and closer in anticipation of a fish from the boatman. The fish are considered low quality and unsuitable for sale, so they are instead thrown back to the local wildlife.”

Shanilou Perera

Shanilou has always loved reading and learning about the world we live in. While she enjoys fictional books and stories just as much, since childhood she was especially fascinated by encyclopaedias and strangely enough, self-help books. As a kid, she spent most of her time consuming as much knowledge as she could get her hands on and could always be found at the library. Now, she still enjoys finding out about all the amazing things that surround us in our day-to-day lives and is blessed to be able to write about them to share with the whole world as a profession.

Got wisdom to pour?
