Dutch Designer Makes “Ground Fridge” That Doesn’t Use Electricity And Is Inspired By Root Cellar

Published 8 years ago

What happens when you want to have a root cellar, but without the rats and roots? You could buy one of these spiffy Groundfridges by Floris Schoonderbeek. It’s a prefabricated ground fridge that you just need to cover up in your garden. It uses the insulation of the ground and the cooling effect of ground water to keep your vegetables (and drinks) at a cool 12 degree Celsius year-round.

This modern root cellar has been designed by Floris Shooderbeek, the founder of Werltewree company. Groundfridge has been designed for the modern man. “You can find rooftop gardens, urban farmers and all those kinds of activities,” Shooderbeek said in the promotional video. “I think that Groundfridge can contribute to this chain.”

Schoonderbeek talks about his project:

Writes like a mad dervish, rolls to dodge responsibility, might have bitten the Moon once.

Got wisdom to pour?
