20 Exquisite Bird Sculptures By Matt Wilson, Made From Upcycled Utensils
In an era where sustainability meets artistry, Matt Wilson’s bird sculptures stand out as stunning examples of creative genius. Utilizing upcycled utensils, Wilson transforms everyday items into intricate avian sculptures that capture the beauty and grace of the natural world.
Matt Wilson’s journey into sculpture began 15 years ago. “I went to school for drawing and painting but wanted to learn a new medium,” he shares. “I got a job at a shipyard to learn how to weld so I could start making metal sculptures. Early on, I was working on a model of a motorcycle with some recycled metal pieces. I used a spoon to make the gas tank and the shape reminded me of the head of a bird. The first bird I made involved just two utensils. Over time as I honed my skills, my pieces have evolved.”
Wilson finds inspiration in the unique shapes of animals. “I’m constantly thinking about how to render different body parts out of metal. Using curves and angles, but also negative space to create flow. I like for the viewer’s eye to have to do a little work when observing my art.”
