Artist Explores The Bond Between Nature And Man By Sculpting Meditative Figures From Leaves, Resin And Flowers
Imagine a world where mossy beings, animals, and hybrid figures emerge in a lush burst of nature in full bloom. These embodiments of our bond with the natural world are Émeric Chantier’s way of exploring the balance between art and nature. At its core, art is about expressing genuine passion and love for something real, and that feeling can take any creative form.
For Chantier, it takes the form of sculpting meditative figures from leaves, resin, and flowers. His surreal touch appears in the fantastical, leafy beings he creates. Mixing industrial and organic materials, he shapes sculptures that prompt viewers to reflect on humanity’s impact on the environment.

Speaking to DeMilked about his influences, he said, “My work is mainly influenced by natural sciences, philosophy, and reflections on the evolution of our species. I am particularly interested in the tensions between biological inheritances, cultural constructions, and technological transformations, as well as the ethical and existential dilemmas that arise from them.”
Elaborating on his technique, the French artist added, “My creative process is most often based on associations of ideas around themes that resonate with me at a given moment—such as transhumanism, the great Enlightenment classifications, or our relationship to the living world. These paths first take the form of a long phase of collecting materials, objects, and references, before being shaped into hybrid sculptures where the natural, the artificial, and the symbolic meet.”
Chantier developed this artistic approach before 2010 and describes it as part of a long-term practice shaped by over fifteen years of experimentation, aimed at creating lasting works that feel of their time and are almost alive.
