30 Hilarious Single-Panel Comics By Nate Fakes

Published 3 years ago

When drawing comics, you can spend hours creating numerous panels and elaborate stories – but sometimes one panel is more than enough. And comic artist Nate Fakes’ works are the perfect example. The man creates hilarious single-panel comics, and they’re absolutely impossible not to laugh at.

In an interview with Bored Panda, the artist said he has been drawing since he got his first box of crayons, and that some of his biggest inspirations are Gary Larson’s The Far Side comic strip and MAD magazine. “I’ve been a cartoonist my whole life. Professionally, I guess you can say I started about a little over a decade ago,” says Nate. “It’s a tough profession, but the most rewarding profession, too.” The artist says that the best thing about being a solo artist is the freedom of working for himself.

Nate says that the beginning of a cartoonist’s career is hard and brutal. “You’ll have a ton of rejection and almost nothing works out as planned. It takes thick skin to hang in there and keep working at cartooning,” explained the artist. “If you work hard and have a goal of becoming a cartoonist, there’s a good chance you’ll become one. Most people give up. Hang in there.”

“You may end up not being able to do exactly what you want when it comes to cartooning, but the journey may take you someplace better,” continued Nate. “For example, I now have a publishing deal for a graphic novel, which is something I thought I’d never be doing. It’s an exciting direction I’m anxious to take with my work and totally different than my gag comics.”

Nate says that the key to becoming a good cartoonist is feeling the need to grow and become better. “Take honest criticism from professionals and use it to your advantage,” concluded the artist.

Aušrys Uptas

One day, this guy just kind of figured - "I spend most of my time on the internet anyway, why not turn it into a profession?" - and he did! Now he not only gets to browse the latest cat videos and fresh memes every day but also shares them with people all over the world, making sure they stay up to date with everything that's trending on the web. Some things that always pique his interest are old technologies, literature and all sorts of odd vintage goodness. So if you find something that's too bizarre not to share, make sure to hit him up!

Got wisdom to pour?
