Leica Lens Cut in Half

Published 13 years ago

View with caution, this may hurt your eyes. It’s a Leica Tri-Elmar-M 28-35-50mm sliced cleanly down the middle, revealing all the glass and pieces inside that go into making the lens, and if colleges offered camera equipment anatomy classes, this Leica lens cutaway might be one of the things you’d be examining in the lab. [1] Leica lenses are technical marvels and should be taken care of respectfully. [2] Some older and more sensitive photographers might even get a heart attack seeing a Leica lens literally sawed in half.

This particular Tri-Elmar-M cutaway was available for $995 on eBay from a seller nicknamed leicaplace.

We also accidentally found this Nikon D3 cutaway photo. Unfortunately, we do not know who did this expensive project. Does anybody know?

Got wisdom to pour?
