This Man Built A Stick Library Where Dogs Can “Rent” A Stick

Published 5 years ago

Here’s a quick question for you: what’s long, brown, and sticky? And here’s the answer: a stick. Sorry – I’ve been looking for an opportunity to use this joke for a long time. Anyway, all jokes aside, if there’s anything out there that dogs love, it’s a good old fashioned stick. It’s fun, it’s free and you can usually find one almost anywhere – except when you actually need one. To combat this problem, one man decided to build a “stick library” for dogs at a local park where they can “rent” a stick as long as they return it after.

The “stick library” was built by 59-year-old New Zealand man Andrew Taylor after he noticed how much his own dog loves sticks. “Our dog Bella had become a stick lover because she ripped to shreds any balls or toys,” said the man’s daughter, Tayla.

Andrew collected some sticks after trimming the trees around his house, smoothed and cleaned them and made a box to put them in.

The man went on to engrave “Stick Library” on the lid and encouraged people to return the sticks after their dogs finished playing with them. “He decided to call it the stick library because it implied that you return the stick once you’re finished with it,” explained Tayla.

“As people started to arrive, there was a disbelief of how simple the idea was, but it’s one of those ideas no one had thought of,” said Andrew’s daughter. “All the dog owners appreciate it as they all have experienced the “good stick search” which isn’t always fruitful, it’s an idea that just makes sense to them.”

One day, this guy just kind of figured - "I spend most of my time on the internet anyway, why not turn it into a profession?" - and he did! Now he not only gets to browse the latest cat videos and fresh memes every day but also shares them with people all over the world, making sure they stay up to date with everything that's trending on the web. Some things that always pique his interest are old technologies, literature and all sorts of odd vintage goodness. So if you find something that's too bizarre not to share, make sure to hit him up!

Got wisdom to pour?
