Spanish Artists Decorate The Shopping District In Malaga With A Colorful Crocheted Canopy
With temperatures reaching record heights this year, everyone is doing whatever they can to escape the scorching summer heat. And when it comes to escaping the heat, sometimes simply finding a shadow can be a godsend. That’s where awnings, umbrellas and canopies come into play.
Instead of erecting a plastic canopy like they usually do, the Spanish city of Malaga came up with a more creative and environmentaly friendly way. Three years ago, the city’s Department of the Environment hired local crochet teacher Eva Pacheco who along with her students created a massive colorful canopy that runs along Malaga’s shopping district. Pacheco and her students add new material to the existing sunshade each summer, and it currently covers an area of a whopping 500 square meters.
