As Promised, Back To The Future’s Nikes With Power Laces Are Now A Reality

Published 9 years ago

Despite the prediction of Back To The Future, we don’t yet have flying cars or easy kitchen hydroponics. But at least Nike Air Mag shoes with auto shoelaces are here! Called “power laces,” they immediately tighten when you put you foot in. The cinematic mock-up of this technology was made for the movie 30 years ago. Now, Nike is making them a reality.

However, the first batch will not be sold in stores. An auction will be held, and the proceeds will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation For Parkinson Research. The actor received the a pair of Air Mags and demonstrated them in a short Twitter video. “We started creating something for fiction and we turned it into fact, inventing a new technology that will benefit all athletes,” said Nike President Mark Parker. Hopefully, that means we’ll all get power laces one day.
