20 Times This Artist Added Modern-Day Humor To Classical Art Pieces

Published 2 years ago

A digital artist named Varkey creates hilarious memes based on classical paintings. The artist made these edits during covid lockdowns. In a note shared with DeMilked, Varkey revealed, “I chose the digital medium because I am not talented enough to paint but I have a quirky imagination and I love to work on traditional art. I think traditional art and modern life are interconnected.. Through my works, I try to portray contemporary life in classical art.”

The artist says, “My works are all based on the relationship between traditional art and pop culture. Traditional art and pop culture are basically the same. During the renaissance, It was through traditional art that people expressed their emotions and values so we can say that traditional art was the popular culture of those times. You can see this in classical paintings or old churches and buildings.” The artist also believes that “Today’s pop culture is tomorrow’s traditional art.” Check out some of his most hilarious works in the gallery below.
