This Piece Of Glass Stores 360 TB And Will Last You 13.8 Billion Years

Published 8 years ago

Scientists at the University of Southampton have been working hard to change the way we store data. Recently they’ve announced a 5D glass disc – a new kind of digital storage that will keep our data for… well… eternity.

That means no more unreliable hard drives. Ever.

These storage devices can store up to 360TB of data, operate at 1000°C and the best part – they will last you forever. According to the scientist: in room temperature the disc would last virtually forever and at 190°C for about 13.8 billion years.

It sounds great, but there is this tidbit – it is not out yet. So let’s keep our fingers crossed that we won’t have to wait for this one for eternity.
