Artist Turns Afro Hairstyles Into Flowery Galaxies To Remind Black Women Of Their Uniqueness
With his “Black Girl Magic” portrait series, artist Pierre Jean-Louis encourages black women to stay true to who they are and embrace their unique heritage.
“A lot of [black women] are brainwashed to not appreciate their natural beauty,” Pierre said to Bored Panda. “Especially in 2016. Earlier this year I saw so many black queens who feel comfortable enough and proud to show their African heritage so I decided to start this series to let them know how much I appreciate them and their natural beauty. I just want them to see how we black men see them when they’re rocking their natural hair. We see nothing but #strong #Goddesses & #queens thank you.“
For this series, US-born visual artist created surreal portraits of African-American women by transforming Afro hairstyles into flowery galaxies and magical nature landscapes. A nice reminder of how interestingly unique we all are.
