Video games are changing education [INFOGRAPHIC]

Published 8 years ago

Studies conducted on students showed that video games actually improve one’s ability to learn. Students find gaming and gamification of work as being something stimulating and refreshing. Pausing the work for couple of minutes to enjoy an online game can boost memory and help develop cognitive skills, which are needed for the learning process.

Playing video games also develops the multitasking ability, which enables the students to practice using different parts of the brain at the same time. This also keeps them away from Alzheimer’s for a longer time, in old age, preventing cognitive impairment.

Another major benefit of online video games is they teach players to think faster and take important decisions up to 25% faster. On the long term, this makes the students better at managing unexpected events and prepares them for taking exams where they are asked to give the answer within a short period of time. However, the biggest advantage of video games is the fact they develop creativity. Being creative is very important in order to link different knowledge and make up your own opinions, which is part of the educational process. If teachers were used to kids who never asked a lot of questions, nowadays, they can expect their students who be highly creative, thanks to their broader imagination that enables them to be inventive.
